A padel level is a numerical rating — typically on a scale from around 1.0 (complete beginner) to 7.0+ (professional) — that approximates how well a player plays. Levels are used to match players for competitive games, organise leagues and americanos, and structure club programming.

Where the number comes from

The most widely used sources are the player's Playtomic level (calculated from match results in the app) and federation ratings (from sanctioned competition results). Self-reported levels are notoriously optimistic — most players rate themselves about half a point above their actual playing standard.

Why operators care

Mismatching players by level is one of the fastest ways to kill engagement. A 4.5 player put into a 3.0 game is bored within 15 minutes; a 3.0 player put into a 4.5 game has an unpleasant hour and may not come back. Programming events at clearly-defined level bands — and politely turning away players who book outside their band — is one of the highest-leverage things a club can do for retention.
